District Health Society Kargil organizes panel discussion on mental health
Kargil, July 06, 2024: In view of increase in psychiatric patients, District Health Society Kargil today organized a panel discussion on mental health at District Hospital, Kargil.
Rector University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, Kaneez Fatima, besides various doctors of DHK Kargil including Dr Fatima Nissa, Nodal Officer Mental Health DHK; Dr Ghulam Hussain Bardi Consultant Physician; Dr Zahra Banoo Gynaecologist; Dr Sajjad Hussain Surgeon; Dr Murtaza Ali, Consultant Psychiatrist; Dr Azhar Orthopaedic surgeon; Dr Tanveer, Nodal Officer NCD OPD, participated in the panel discussion and talked at length on various issues pertaining to the theme.
During the panel discussion on postpartum psychosis, ADHD, substance abuse, depression, schizophrenia and various other mental health related diseases were discussed.
It was underscored that mental health is necessary for social life and financial prosperity. Besides it was also highlighted that more patients are now referred by the doctors for psychiatric consultation due to the availability of doctors at DHK.
It was also discussed that strong measures need to be taken for diagnosis of mental health disorders and holistic care needs to be imparted to adolescent kids going through stress who are prone to substance abuse.
The discussion further acknowledged that there is a lot of stress on youths due to performance. Further it was also highlighted that it’s a social issue and society needs to address it and take it as a normal health problem.
The panel discussion also discussed postpartum psychosis and stress amongst patients undergoing major surgery, besides intellectual disability amongst children was also discussed.
The panel collectively agreed to develop robust methods for spreading awareness about mental health and urged the public to consult a psychiatrist or psychologist if they are facing any psychological issues. The discussion was moderated by Dr Fatima Nissa.
