Ladakh Scouts lifts 3rd CEC Cup Polo Tournament 2024

Leh, July 06: Ladakh Scouts lifted the 3rd consecutive CEC Cup Polo Tournament, 2024 by defeating Indus Polo Club Chushot at the Shagaran Polo Ground in Chushot on July 5.

3rd CEC Cup Polo Tournament was organised to revive the ancient sport of horse polo. The successful execution of this tournament was made possible by the support of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council . Their commitment to revitalizing the infrastructure at Shagaran and fostering local heritage has been instrumental in bringing this event to fruition.

On the final day of the event, the program featured a women’s team exhibition match, along with the highly anticipated men’s final match. The women’s exhibition match offered a platform for showcasing women’s talent and skill,these matches highlighted the culmination of an inclusive sporting event.

The Polo Cup also featured a vibrant array of cultural activities, including traditional dances such as Lharna, Solchod Appo Appi dance,Shondol, Khamchon Khabo Ghazal. These performances added a rich tapestry of local heritage to the event.

Hon’ble Advisor to HLG Ladakh Dr Pawan Kotwal attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest whereas Councillor Chushot constituency, Mirza Hussain;Executive Councillor (Agriculture) Stanzin Chosphel;Joint Director, DYSS Moses Kunzang presides as special guests .Numerous other dignitaries and locals also attended the event.

During the event, Dr Pawan Kotwal congratulated the winner and runner-up teams and the participants for showing true sportsmanship spirit throughout the game. Highlighting the popularity of the game in the Union Territory, he also spoke of promoting tourism in the area through such initiatives and reviving age-old traditions like the game of Polo in the region.

Councillor Chushot Mirza Hussain also addressed the gathering and spoke of the importance of the revival of the traditional game of Polo in the region. He also appreciated the enthusiasm of the athletes and the efforts of the organising committee and also expressed his gratitude to the UT Administration and the Hill Council Leh for their unconditional support in promoting the sport of Polo in Ladakh.

Prizes were distributed among the winners and players along with officials were felicitated by the chief guest. Tundup Dorjey, President Indus Polo Club delivered the vote of thanks.
