Kargil, December 05, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, conducted an extensive review meeting in Zanskar to evaluate the performance, progress, and challenges of various government departments operating in the sub-division.

During the session, the DC carried out a department-wise assessment, covering Education, Rural Development, Revenue, Health, ICDS, LRLM, PHE, Power, Agriculture, Horticulture, KREDA, Social Welfare, Cooperatives, and other related departments.

Stray Dog Issue & Public Safety
Officials informed the DC that sterilisation of stray dogs is currently not possible in the region. He instructed departments to ensure the availability and timely administration of anti-rabies vaccines as a precautionary measure.
Education Sector Review
The DC sought updates on the overall academic performance, percentage achievements, and challenges faced by schools. He directed the Education Department to maintain consistent learning standards and ensure students’ progress continues despite the harsh winter months.
Power Supply Concerns
Emphasizing responsible power usage, the DC urged residents to avoid excessive use of heaters to prevent overload on backup systems.
He highlighted that the Raru Hydro Project supplies electricity only to Padum, while other areas still rely on DG sets, and asked the Power Department to ensure uninterrupted winter power supply across Zanskar.
Promotion of SHG Products
The DC instructed the DPO, ICDS Kargil to prioritise and promote products developed by Self Help Groups (SHGs) under LRLM, ensuring their inclusion in all ICDS-linked activities.
Review of Water Supply Issues
A detailed discussion was held on non-functional water supply systems during winter. The DC directed the Executive Engineer, PHE, to carry out a thorough review and submit a comprehensive report with practical solutions to address these challenges.
Issues related to horticulture, agriculture, LRLM, and other sectors were also examined, and the DC issued timely instructions for effective redressal.
Administrative Directions
He further instructed officials not to leave the station without obtaining permission from the competent authority, ensuring smooth functioning of essential services.
