Leh, 22 September 2026: The University of Ladakh warmly welcomed 57 students and four faculty members of the Department of Geography, Miranda House, University of Delhi, who are visiting Leh as part of their academic field excursion.
The field excursion, held on 21 and 22 September 2026, provided the students with an opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to the distinctive geographical, environmental and socio-cultural features of the region and to complement classroom learning through field-based study.
A significant highlight of the programme was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Ladakh and Miranda House, University of Delhi, marking an important step towards strengthening academic cooperation between the two institutions. The MoU will provide a framework for future collaboration in joint research, fieldwork, student engagement, academic exchange and other scholarly activities.
Prof. Bijayalaxmi Nanda, Principal, Miranda House, joined the programme virtually and expressed her support for strengthening academic engagement between the two institutions. The visiting students also had an interaction with the Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh Prof. Saket Kushwaha, during which they discussed their academic experiences and engaged in an exchange of ideas.
As part of the programme, the students also had an engaging interaction with officers from the Armed Forces, who responded to their queries and shared valuable insights about the region and its strategic environment. The interaction added an important dimension to their field-based learning experience.
The students and faculty members were introduced to the academic and research opportunities available at the University, including avenues for higher education and field-based research.
The University of Ladakh expressed the hope that the MoU would pave the way for a long-term and mutually enriching academic partnership with Miranda House, creating opportunities for sustained collaboration in teaching, research, field studies and student development.
