CEO asks political parties to help verify municipal electoral rolls in Ladakh

Leh, October 12: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Ladakh, Rahul Sharma on Monday met representatives of recognised political parties in Leh to discuss the ongoing revision of municipal electoral rolls for the Municipal Committees of Leh and Kargil.

The meeting, held at the CEO’s office at Karzoo, Old Raj Niwas, was aimed at familiarising political parties with the eligibility criteria, enrolment procedures and timelines for filing claims and objections. Joint Chief Electoral Officer Sonam Chosjor was also present.

Mr. Sharma briefed the representatives on the eligibility and disqualification criteria and the procedures for inclusion of names, correction of particulars and filing objections in the draft electoral rolls.

The draft municipal electoral rolls have been published and are available for public inspection. October 15 is the last date for filing claims and objections. The CEO urged eligible residents of Leh and Kargil to verify their names and electoral details and submit the prescribed forms for inclusion or correction, wherever required.

He also called upon political parties to spread awareness about the revision exercise, particularly among eligible residents whose names may be missing from the draft rolls.

Prescribed forms for inclusion, correction and filing objections were distributed among the representatives during the meeting.

Representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Indian National Congress (INC) attended the meeting.
