Ladakh to See Improved Weather; No Major Snowfall Forecast Until November 20

LEH, November 3: Weather conditions across Ladakh are expected to improve from Tuesday after a spell of cold and cloudy weather under the influence of a feeble Western Disturbance, with light snowfall reported over some high-altitude peaks and mountain passes.

According to the Meteorological Centre Leh-Ladakh, most parts of the Union Territory are likely to witness mainly clear to partly cloudy weather from November 3 to 5. Partly to generally cloudy conditions are expected on November 6, with the possibility of light snowfall over some peaks and passes.

The weather is likely to remain mainly clear to partly cloudy from November 7 to 10, followed by partly to generally cloudy conditions between November 11 and 13. For November 14 to 20, generally fair to partly cloudy weather is forecast, with occasional cloud cover and light snowfall over some higher reaches.

The latest temperature observations recorded on November 2 indicate freezing conditions at several locations. Nyoma recorded the lowest minimum temperature at -4.6°C, followed by Leh (-1.7°C), Padum (-1.4°C), Stakna (-1.2°C), Drass (-1.1°C) and Upshi (-0.3°C).

Kargil recorded a maximum temperature of 15.2°C and a minimum of 0.5°C, while Leh recorded a maximum of 12°C. Among other locations, Diskit recorded 12.4°C, Drass 12.2°C, Padum 10.5°C and Nyoma 8.3°C as maximum temperatures.

The Meteorological Centre has issued no warning for heavy rainfall or snowfall and stated that no significant weather activity or major snowfall is expected anywhere in Ladakh until November 20. No weather-related flight cancellation risk is anticipated during the forecast period.

Meanwhile, residents have been advised to take precautions against seasonal illnesses due to falling temperatures and use adequate warm clothing. Travellers and commuters have also been advised to remain updated about weather and road conditions, as weather in mountainous areas can change rapidly.
