RD&PRD organizes awareness program on Swachh Bharat Diwas at Zanskar

KARGIL, OCTOBER 02 2022:

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department (RD&PRD) in collaboration with Panchayat Coordination Committee Zanskar today organized an awareness program on the occasion of Swachh Bharat Diwas at subdivision Zanskar on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti under Swachhta Hi Seva.

District Panchayat Officer (DPO) Kargil, Padma Angmo, BDC, Assistant Professor GMDC Zanskar, Tashi Lundup, BDO Tsewang Ringzin, Sub Divisional Officers, Sarpanchs, Panchs, members of Merchant Association, students and people in large number also attended the program.

First an awareness program was held at Zanskar market. In the awareness program, the DPO sensitized the participants about the objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen Phase-2 like solid waste management, liquid waste management in order to attain ODF Plus status.

The ODF Plus activities will reinforce ODF behaviours and focus on providing interventions for the safe management of solid and liquid waste in villages.

The DPO said that ODF Plus has to go through two stages, aspiring and rising, to reach the Model phase. The aspiring stage have the criteria to ensure functional toilet facility to all household in villages, separate toilets for male and female in schools, Anganwadi centres, and panchayat ghar, and arrangement for Solid Waste Management or Liquid Waste Management.

She also educated the participants about the management of solid and liquid waste. She also informed about various infrastructural interventions in achieving the goals of SBM Grameen Phase-II.

The DPO called for scientific and environment-friendly approaches in dealing with waste management and stressed on the segregation of waste at the primary level.

Assistant Professor GMDC Zanskar, Tashi Lundup gave a guest lecture on the importance of cleanliness in saving the environment.

The BDC presented vote of thanks. Earlier, the BDO presented the welcome speech.

On the occasion, the student of DPS School Ufti and Lamdon Model School Ufti presented skits and programs. Dustbins were also distributed to the two schools.

The students also presented a cultural program that enthralled the audience. The students presented skits on environmental protection, the negative impact of social media.

Later, a training session was held at Dak Bunglow Zanskar, where the DPO also imparted training about how to prepare Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) and Block Development Panchayat Development Plan and how to plan the developmental activities based on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).
