In a major push towards creating an inclusive and barrier-free environment, the School Education Department (SED) Leh has installed a new accessibility lift at the Office of the Chief Education Officer (CEO). The facility was inaugurated on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, marking a significant milestone for accessibility in the district.

The lift will provide easy and dignified access to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), enabling them to reach various floors of the building without mobility challenges and avail departmental services, schemes, and employment-related support.
The inauguration was jointly led by:
Ms. Tashi Dolma, Director, School Education Department Ms. Deldan Angmo, Chief Education Officer, Leh Mr. Thukjey Tashi, President, Peopleβs Action Group for Inclusion and Rights (PAGIR) Mr. Tsewang Dorjey, Member and former President, PAGIR
Speaking at the event, Director Tashi Dolma highlighted the importance of accessible infrastructure, stressing that βequal access is the foundation of equal opportunity for every citizen.β Representatives from PAGIR welcomed the initiative, noting that accessible facilities greatly enhance mobility, dignity, and inclusion for the disabled community.

This development aligns with the ongoing Accessible India Campaign in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The campaign mandates all government buildings to comply with the Harmonised Guidelines for Barrier-Free Built Environment (2016) issued by the Government of India. Officials stated that the administration aims to make Ladakh a model region for inclusivity and accessibility.
