AI-Enabled 128-Slice CT Scan Inaugurated at CHC Sankoo, Strengthening Healthcare in Kargil

Kargil, December 17, 2025:

In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in Kargil district, the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has handed over a state-of-the-art AI-enabled 128-slice CT Scan Machine to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Sankoo under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The advanced diagnostic facility was inaugurated in the august presence of Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, marking a significant milestone in improving medical services in one of Ladakh’s most populous sub-divisions.

As part of the CSR project, POWERGRID not only provided the high-end CT scan machine but also supported the construction of the required infrastructure at CHC Sankoo, ensuring smooth installation and operational readiness of the facility.

The initiative aims to enhance diagnostic capabilities in the Sankoo region and significantly reduce the burden on District Hospital Kargil, which currently operates the district’s only CT scan facility. With the new installation, patients will no longer need to travel long distances for critical imaging services, especially during medical emergencies.

The CT scan machine was formally handed over to the Health Department by Shri Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director, POWERGRID Northern Region-II.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujtaba, Councillors Aga Syed Ahmad Rizvi and Ghulam Haider, CMO Kargil Dr. Liyaqat Ali, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Kargil Dr. Mohd Abass, Executive Engineer SVD Sankoo, Block Medical Officer Sankoo, Chairman Anjuman Sahib Zaman, religious leaders, senior officials of POWERGRID, members of the medical fraternity, and other dignitaries.

Valued at approximately ₹9.45 crore, the advanced diagnostic equipment is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery across Kargil district and adjoining areas. The installation is projected to save nearly ₹55 lakh annually by reducing patient referrals outside the region.

Moreover, the availability of CT scan services at CHC Sankoo will play a crucial role in strengthening emergency care by enabling faster diagnosis during the critical “golden hour”, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes and lifesaving interventions.
