Awareness Campaign on Child Marriage & Gender-Based Violence Held at Sawab Public School, Kargil

Kargil, December 6, 2025:

The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) organized a comprehensive awareness program at Sawab Public School, Baroo, Kargil. The event was conducted under the “100 Days Special Campaign for Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat” and the global “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence”, aiming to educate students and staff on crucial social and legal protections for women and children.

The campaign focused on sensitizing young students about the harmful impact of child marriage and the importance of preventing gender-based violence. Gender Specialist from DHEW, Ms. Amina Banoo, delivered an impactful address highlighting key provisions of the POCSO Act, 2012, and emphasized the fundamental rights and safety of women and children.

Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Kargil, Dr. Niyaz Ali, spoke on the urgent need to eradicate child marriage and other forms of violence. He also shed light on the child protection services available under the Mission Vatsalya scheme and encouraged students to act as ambassadors for safeguarding vulnerable groups in society.

Concluding the event, Mr. Khadim Hussain Khan, Protection Officer (Institutional Care), DCPU, expressed gratitude to the principal and management of Sawab Public School for their cooperation and support in hosting the awareness program.

The session reinforced the collective responsibility of the community to ensure the safety, dignity, and rights of women and children in Ladakh.
