CEC Kargil chairs meeting with Zojilla Tunnel Project Head on various issues

Kargil, June 22, 2024: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today chaired a meeting with Head Incharge of Mega Engineering Infrastructure Limited, overseeing various issues on Zojilla Tunnel Eastern Portal.

Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil for Revenue, Kacho Mohd Feroz; Executive Councillor for Education, Zakir Hussain; Councillor Ranbirpora, Abdul Samad; Councillor Bhimbhat; Councillor Choskore, Nasir Hussain Munshi; Incharge SDM, Drass, Head Incharge, MEIL, Syed Burhan, Labour Union President, Vice President and others attended the meeting.

The discussions were focused on issues with an emphasis on providing employment opportunities to local youth. The CEC requested Syed Burhan to submit a detailed list of employees currently engaged at the eastern portal of the tunnel. He further directed that local skilled and unskilled labourers should be given preference in the recruitment process.

Highlighting the importance of local engagement, Dr Akhoon urged the project management to work in close coordination with the local community. He emphasized that the Zojilla Tunnel is a dream project for the Ladakh region and requires a broad and inclusive perspective to ensure its success.

The CEC also instructed the Executive Councillors to schedule another meeting with the concerned parties to outline the next steps.
