CEC Kargil tours Zanskar to inspect developmental works, lays foundation stones for various projects

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today conducted an extensive tour of Zanskar to inspect ongoing developmental works and laid foundation stones for multiple projects aimed at improving infrastructure and services in the Sub Division.
The CEC Dr. Akhoon was accompanied by Executive Councillor for Zanskar Affairs, Er Punchok Tashi, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, along with district officers, representatives from Karsha Constituency and Sub-Divisional Officers.
At Parkachik, local villagers expressed their gratitude to CEC for ensuring the availability of a doctor at t New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC). They also raised the demand for a laboratory assistant, which the CEC assured would be resolved at the earliest.
En route to Zanskar, Dr Akhoon inspected the ongoing power transmission line works and instructed the executing agency to devise an alternative route to minimize the impact on local wildlife.
In Shakma Karpo, Zanskar, the villagers requested a passive solar bank. The CEC and DC directed the Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency (KREDA) to expedite the tender process. Additionally, the CEC also informed that the construction of an Anganwadi centre is in plan.
At Rangdum, villagers demanded a link road to the local Gompa, clean drinking water under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and other issues. The CEC assured that these matters would be addressed in a phased manner and also assured to provide mobile banking service.
At Akshow, Dr. Akhoon laid the foundation stone for a Community Hall, a project approved under the District Capex Budget. He congratulated the local residents and emphasized that developmental works under his leadership would be carried out without any discrimination.
He also announced Rs 1 lakh grant to Rural Development Department (RDD) for roofing repairs to the house of Tsering Tsomo, a destitute whose house was damaged in a wildlife attack.
At Junkhor, Padum, the CEC laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of the link road from Junkhor to Padum, a major project estimated to cost Rs 19.50 crore under the Special Development Package (SDP).
At Stara Zanskar, he laid the foundation stone for a Multi-Purpose Hall. Later, the CEC inaugurated a newly constructed Community Hall in Pakpodir Salapi, completed by the RDD under the state sector.
While addressing the villagers in Pakpodir, Dr. Akhoon congratulated them on the recent announcement of District Status for Zanskar. He highlighted Zanskar’s rapid growth and its potential to become a prominent tourist destination in the near future.
He praised the efforts of the Executive Councillor for Zanskar and Karsha Councillor, stating that their competence, alongside the district administration’s support, is driving numerous new initiatives and developments in the sub division.
Dr. Akhoon also expressed pride in India’s central government’s dedication to providing essential services to remote areas like Zanskar, calling it a matter of great national pride.
He lauded the Rural Development Department for timely completion of projects and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all basic services are delivered to people of Zanskar.
Executive Councillor, Er Punchok Tashi extended his gratitude to the Hill Council’s Chairman and district officials for their tireless efforts. He assured the people of Zanskar that every village and locality will receive the necessary facilities and infrastructure improvements.
