Checking Squad Inspects Kargil Markets, Ensures Compliance with Norms

Kargil, February 2, 2026: In compliance with the directions of the District Administration, Kargil, a joint inspection was conducted on February 2, 2026, in the Kargil Main Market to ensure adherence to prescribed quality standards, fair pricing, and proper hygiene practices.

The inspection covered vegetable vendors, retail shops, restaurants, and tea stalls. The joint team comprised officials from the Food Safety Department, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Pollution Control Committee, Metrology Department, and the Municipal Committee, Kargil.

During the inspection, the teams carefully checked the prices of vegetables and fruits to prevent overpricing. Vendors and shopkeepers were strictly instructed not to sell stale, rotten, or expired food items, as such practices pose serious risks to public health.

The officials also sensitized vendors about the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene and complying with Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Furthermore, directions were issued to avoid the use of plastic carry bags and to promote the use of eco-friendly alternatives.

The Food Safety Department, Kargil, reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring the availability of safe and quality food products for consumers. Regular inspections will continue to be conducted to ensure compliance and protect consumer interest.
