
Srinagar, April 15, 2026:
Cluster University of Srinagar today organized an academic and cultural programme to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, celebrating his enduring legacy and significant contributions to modern India.
On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Mobin, reflected on Dr. Ambedkar’s visionary ideas, his pivotal role in shaping the Constitution of India, and the continued relevance of his philosophy in contemporary academic discourse. He emphasized the importance of critically engaging with constitutional values in higher education and urged students to imbibe the principles of equality, justice, and fraternity in both thought and action.
Registrar, Prof. (Dr.) Wilayat Hussain Rizvi, highlighted the lasting impact of Dr. Ambedkar’s vision, noting that his ideals continue to guide the nation’s progress. Addressing the students, he encouraged them to carry forward Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy in building a prosperous and inclusive society across all sectors.
The programme was graced by the presence of Deans of various faculties, including Prof. (Dr.) Nighat Nasreen (Dean, Sciences), Dr. Javaid Ahmad Bhat (Dean, Social Sciences), and Prof. Tahira Syed (Dean, Humanities and Liberal Arts). Faculty members and university officers were also present on the occasion.
As part of the event, an essay writing competition on the theme “Relevance of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Modern India” was organized on campus. Students actively participated, presenting thoughtful perspectives on Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring influence on Indian society and governance.
The Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries felicitated the winners with certificates and cash prizes. The first prize was awarded to Ms Faiqa Farooq (IG English, 8th Semester), while Ms Hadiya Manzoor (IG English, 8th Semester) and Ms Mumtaza Jan (IG English, 10th Semester) secured second and third positions, respectively.
The programme also featured a documentary and audio-visual presentation highlighting the life and contributions of Dr. Ambedkar.

The event was successfully organized by the Cultural Committee of the University, led by its Coordinator, Dr. Uzma Shafi (Assistant Professor, English), with the support of Dr. Fozia Jan (Assistant Professor/ co-cordinator, Management Studies) and Dr. Rutba Peerzada (Assistant Professor, Political Science)
The University reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the ideals of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and fostering a culture of critical inquiry, inclusivity, and social responsibility among its students.
