Commissioner Secretary, Padma Angmo visits ITI, GDC Kargil, reviews skill development courses

 

Kargil, January 11: Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare, Higher Education and Information, Ladakh, Padma Angmo today visited Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and Govt. Degree College, Kargil to review the infrastructure projects and functioning of skill development courses in the institutes.

 

Superintendent ITI, Kargil, District Social Welfare Officer, Kargil, OSD to CS, beside other concerned officers accompanied the Commissioner Secretary. The Commissioner directed for installation of sanitary pad vending machines in winter-friendly toilets at ITI Kargil.

 

Padma Angmo inspected various training facilities, including carpenter shed, motor mechanic, plumber and electrical training laboratory.

 

She further instructed for the relocation of the carpentry trade classroom to a winter-friendly environment, considering the students’ well-being.

 

Later, she visited GDC Kargil and inspected the hand embroiderer section and progress of the newly introduced short-term training under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), a skill development initiative scheme of the Government of India.

 

The students expressed gratitude to the UT Ladakh Administration for launching courses like hand embroidery and Graphic Designing that empower them to become job creators rather than job seekers.

 

The Commissioner Secretary acknowledged the students’ enthusiasm and joy in their participation. In response to the Graphic Designer’s suggestion for a complete photo studio, she assured that necessary steps would be taken to improve training quality.

 

She emphasized the departmentโ€™s commitment to trainees’ welfare and stressed the importance of practical classes for the students. She also inspected the USHA Silai School and Housekeeping.
