District Police Leh arrest 03 persons involved in Steel (Sariya) theft
Leh, 23rd June 2023 District Police Leh has achieved a major breakthrough in an ongoing investigation related to the theft of steel (Sariya).
On 16th June 2023, Mrs. Eshey Dolker, a resident of Hemis Shukpachan and currently residing in Ibex Colony Leh approached SHO Police Station Leh with an application regarding a theft case at her under construction house at Phyang Thang wherein Mrs. Dolker had purchased approximately 29 quintals of steel (Sariya) for the construction of her house in Phyang Thang. However, after few days on her arrival at the under-construction site, she discovered that all the steel had been stolen without a trace.
Taking immediate action, Police Station Leh registered FIR No 91/2023 under sections 379, 457, 34 IPC and swiftly dispatch police teams to investigate the matter. Through diligent efforts, police successfully apprehended three individuals involved in the said theft. The arrested persons are identified as:
1. Gelani Shah S/O Wazir Shah, a building construction contractor from Dhara, Doda, currently residing in Skalzangling Leh. 2. Safder Hussain S/O Ghulam Hassan, mini truck driver from Dhara, Doda, presently residing in Skalzangling Leh, 3. Athar Firdose S/O Ghulam Mohd Malik, an employee at a steel (Sariya) shop near Singay Namgyal Chowk, resident of Hanch Doda and currently residing in the Housing Colony.
During the course of the investigation, the trio had confessed to commit the theft and upon their confessions police recovered 20 bundles of stolen steel (Sariya). The recovered steel bundles comprise of; 1. 07 bundles of 16mm, 2. 12 bundles of 10mm and 01 bundle of 12mm, with an estimated market value of approximately 147,200 rupees.
Preliminary investigation also confirms that the same group is suspected to be involved in several other cases of steel (Sariya) theft that occurred last year and more recoveries are expected.
District Police Leh earnestly appeals to the general public to install CCTV cameras in their residential houses and shops, by doing so, we can enhance security measures and aid in the swift apprehension of criminals. We request everyone to promptly share any relevant information with the police to ensure timely action.
