Moderate earthquake struck Leh, Ladakh early on Thursday morning, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremor, recorded at 4.0 magnitude, occurred at 05:51 AM IST.
As per the NCS, the earthquake originated at a depth of 170 kilometers, indicating a deep seismic event, which typically reduces surface-level impact. The epicentre was pinpointed at 35.55Β°N latitude and 76.34Β°E longitude.
No damages or casualties have been reported so far. Light tremors were felt in several parts of Leh district, though many residents remained unaware due to the early morning timing.
Seismologists note that Ladakh lies in a seismically active zone, making low to moderate tremors fairly common in the region. The NCS continues to monitor aftershock activity, though none have been reported yet.
