GDC Kargil felicitated at Y20 Pre Summit
Kargil, April 28, 2023: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brig. (Dr) B.D Mishra (Retd) felicitated the team of Government Degree College Kargil at the inaugural ceremony of Y20 Pre-Summit in Leh for securing first position in Sustainable Campus Challenge 2023.
The team of GDC Kargil including Farzana, Sayeeda Bano, Asiya and Kaneez Fatima under the mentorship of Dr Javed Iqbal Naqi, Sr. Assistant Professor/ Coordinator Skill Center GDC, Kargil bagged first position for their proposed project ‘’Recycle, Reduce & Reuse; Stationery Waste Management System in College”.
As a part of the award, the winning team received a trophy, cash prize of Rs 15,000 and certificates. The trophy designed was a Juniper Tree made exclusively of scraps by the renowned sculptor Tsering Gurmet Kangyam who is also a State Awardee.
The college also secured fourth position in the same event for the proposed project ‘’Peltier Module for Warm Classrooms, Office.” The team comprises following students Ghulam Mehdi, Mumtaz Ali, Manzoor Hussain, Najuma Fazilat under the mentorship of Dr Niyaz Ali, Assistant Professor Physics, GDC, Kargil.
Celebrating the tremendous achievement, Dr Amina Qari, Principal GDC Kargil congratulated the team members and the mentors. She assured full support for successful implementation of the projects.
While handing over the winning trophy to the Principal, Dr Javed Iqbal Naqi, Project Mentor expressed gratitude to her for providing the platform and encouraging the students to participate in Sustainable Campus Challenge.
In the run up events to the Y20 Pre-Summit, a sustainable campus challenge was organized by Department of Higher Education, UT Ladakh to promote sustainability on educational campus. The contest was open to students of University of Ladakh, constituent Colleges, Polytechnic Colleges, CIBS and ITIs.
