GDC Kargil students start pilot project for plastic waste management

0
A group of thirty students from Girls Hostel of GDC Kargil have started a pilot project to reduce plastic waste as part of the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyaan’ campaign.
With the support of the Hostel Committee, they came up with a clever idea to use waste plastic bottles stuffed with non-biodegradable plastic waste (called Ecobricks) to create a reusable building material. The initiative focused on the innovative use of Ecobricks as a sustainable solution to combat the growing problem of plastic pollution.
This simple yet effective method helps divert plastic from landfills, rivers and streams where it poses serious environmental risks. They will work collaboratively in groups, segregating the plastic waste, and filling the bottles.
They are hopeful that it will inspire others to join in and take part in the eco-friendly movement by adopting similar recycling and reusing practices. The pilot project will serve as a model for future endeavours of sustainable development within the hostel and the college campus.
