HEAL Ladakh organises “Ladakh’s Biodiversity at Risk: Act Now for Tomorrow awareness event at UoL Kargil Campus

KARGIL,NOVEMBER 04 : HEAL (High-Altitude Environment and Education Alliance Ladakh) in partnership with the University of Ladakh and WWF-India, organised an event with theme “Ladakh’s Biodiversity at Risk: Act Now for Tomorrow at University of Ladakh ( Kargil) campus.

The event was support by Himalayan Brown Bear Trust, the Wildlife Protection Department Kargil, and Suru Valley Resorts.

MP Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa, was the Chief Guest at the event, Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil for wildlife, Er Punchok Tashi, Incharge Administration, Kargil campus, Dr. Mehboob Ali,Assistant Program Officer at WWF-India, Mohd Kazim, Director of HEAL Ladakh, Dr Iftikhar Ali, faculties of University beside students and other attended the event.

In his address, MP, Ladakh threw light on the need for collaborative efforts to protect Ladakh’s unique and fragile biodiversity.

He lauded the University of Ladakh and HEAL Ladakh for their tireless work in promoting environmental conservation and stimulate partnerships for sustainable action.

Executive Councillor, Er Punchok Tashi assured continued support for conservation projects in the region. He said that community involvement and dedicated efforts from local stakeholders are essential for the long-term success of these initiatives.

Dr. Mehboob Ali, Incharge Administration, Kargil campus, informed about the achievements of the university and its Biodiversity Research Centre in terms of Environment conservation. He highlighted the institution’s strides in environmental research and its role in supporting regional conservation efforts.

Dr. Iftikhar Ali, Director of HEAL Ladakh, delivered an in-depth presentation on the organization’s mission and current projects in Kargil. He also outlined a detailed biodiversity conservation action plan for the region, calling on all stakeholders to collaborate in implementing strategies designed to protect endangered species and preserve vital habitats..

Later, Mohd Kazim, Assistant Program Officer at WWF-India, showcased WWF’s past and ongoing projects in Ladakh.

At the event speech competition was held among the university students and prices were distributed among the winners.

Farzana Parveen delivered the vote of thanks.

Later, the three signatory submitted a proposal to MP, Ladakh and EC to declare 31st August as Ladakh Biodiversity Day and also launched the website of healladakh.org
