India celebrated Navy Day 2025 today with an impressive show of maritime strength at Shangumugham Beach in Thiruvananthapuram, honouring the courage, dedication and sacrifices of the Indian Navy. The event commemorates Operation Trident, the historic naval strike carried out on December 4, 1971, during the Indo-Pak War.

President Droupadi Murmu graced this year’s celebrations and praised the Navy for safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended greetings, highlighting the Navy’s “courage, determination and growing self-reliance.”

The Navy Day theme for 2025 — “Combat Ready, Cohesive, Credible and Aatmanirbhar Force” — reflects India’s focus on modernisation and indigenously built defence systems.

Thousands of spectators witnessed a large-scale Operational Demonstration featuring warships, submarines, maritime aircraft, helicopters, Marine Commandos (MARCOS), search-and-rescue drills and coastal defence manoeuvres. The display showcased India’s readiness across sea, air and underwater operations.

Navy Day is observed every year on December 4 to remember the success of Operation Trident, when the Indian Navy destroyed key Pakistani naval assets near Karachi harbour — a turning point in the 1971 war.

This year’s celebrations also underlined India’s growing role as a regional maritime power and its commitment to ensuring secure sea routes, coastal safety and stability in the Indian Ocean region.
