Kisan mela organized at KVK Padum, witnesses active participation of progressive farmers

A grand kisan mela was successfully organized today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Padum, where 100 progr
essive farmers from different villages actively participated, showcasing their agricultural products and engaging in various activities aimed at improving farming practices.
The event was a vibrant display of innovations in agriculture, drawing attention from the local farming community.
Dr. Akhon Mohd Mehdi, Principal Scientist and Head of KVK Kargil-II, warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries, and all participants, setting a positive tone for the day. The Mela highlighted the importance of modern agricultural techniques and the role of progressive farmers in leading agricultural development in the region.
In his keynote address, Nurbo, Agriculture Officer of Zanskar, underscored the significant role agriculture plays in uplifting the tribal farming community. He stressed the need for continued support and innovation to empower farmers and improve their livelihoods.
One of the key moments of the event was the prize distribution ceremony, where farmers were awarded based on their contributions and achievements. Additionally, all participants received consolation prizes in recognition of their active involvement in the Mela.
Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Phunchok Tashi, addressed the farmers, emphasizing the growing importance of organic agriculture in improving both livelihoods and the environment. He spoke about the need to expand agricultural land and to export organic produce from Zanskar to other regions, which would significantly enhance the income of local farmers.
Furthermore, he directed both the Agriculture Department and KVK to focus on organizing effective training programs, with special attention to mushroom production as a potential source of income.
EC Tashi also appreciated the efforts of the KVK team for organizing a successful and impactful Kisan Mela, benefitting the farming community.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. F.A. Shah Khan, who expressed his gratitude to all participants, dignitaries, and organizers for making the event a resounding success.
