New Delhi, December 12:
The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, today met the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, in New Delhi and held comprehensive discussions on Ladakh’s developmental priorities, financial requirements, and measures needed to strengthen infrastructure for inclusive and sustainable growth.
During the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor briefed the Union Finance Minister on the ongoing initiatives of the UT Administration aimed at accelerating development works, improving infrastructure, and ensuring equitable growth across all regions of Ladakh. He highlighted that the administration has introduced effective governance systems, strengthened institutional capacity, and streamlined project implementation mechanisms to ensure timely and efficient utilisation of allocated funds.
Shri Kavinder Gupta sought enhanced budgetary support to sustain the development momentum and meet emerging needs of the Union Territory. He emphasized the importance of adequate capital assistance for major infrastructure projects, land acquisition related to central sector initiatives, and continued financial support for local self-government institutions.
Key issues related to power sector obligations, disaster management preparedness, and further strengthening of grassroots governance were also discussed. The Lieutenant Governor underlined the need for sustained financial backing to ensure uninterrupted public services and improve resilience against natural challenges in the region.
The Union Finance Minister patiently heard the submissions made by the Lieutenant Governor and assured that the proposals and requests presented by the UT Administration of Ladakh would be examined in a positive and supportive manner.
The meeting reaffirmed the Government of India’s continued commitment to working closely with the UT Administration to promote sustainable development, improved infrastructure, and balanced growth in Ladakh.
