POWERGRID hands over Truck-Mounted Water Tanker to GDC Kargil under CSR initiative

Kargil, July 05, 2024: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) today handed over a Truck Mounted Water Tanker with 9 kL capacity to DC Kargil for Government Degree College, Kargil under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The tanker was handed over by Executive Director (Northern Region-II), Rajesh Kumar on behalf of POWERGRID to Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil in presence of Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon; Arshad Iqbal Shah, Sr.GM (Ladakh); Vinod Prakash Baxla, General Manager (HR) and several senior officers from POWERGRID and District Administration Kargil along with staff and students of Government Degree College, Kargil were present on the occasion.

On the occasion CEC Kargil, DC Kargil and Incharge Principal GDC Kargil thanked POWERGRID for taking up this CSR initiative for providing this particular infrastructure in the Kargil district which will benefit the students and college staff of the district.

While speaking on the occasion, CEC Jaffer said that the Tanker will significantly alleviate the college’s water scarcity issues. He expressed hope that the PHE Department will achieve 100 percent saturation under the JJM project in Kargil district up to ending August, 2024.

On the occasion, DC Kargil while handing over the water tanker congratulated the college faculty and students saying it fulfilled a long-pending demand of the college, thereby addressing their water scarcity issues.

Executive Director (Northern Region-II), Rajesh Kumar, highlighted POWERGRID’s contributions to the region, emphasizing their commitment to providing ongoing support to the Union Territory of Ladakh. The cost of the tanker is approximately 29.59 lakh.

More than 3,000 students are enrolled in various undergraduate degree courses at Govt. Degree College, Kargil.

Permanent water supply for daily use was a primary concern for the college. To resolve the issue, college authorities had raised the matter with the District Magistrate, Kargil who in turn requested POWERGRID to provide a water tanker to ensure an ample supply of potable drinking water for the Govt. Degree College, Kargil students and staff.

Subsequently the MoU for providing this tanker was signed and today this tanker was formally handed over to DC, Kargil for the use of Government Degree College, Kargil.

This project is an initiative of POWERGRID in District Kargil, towards promoting education. POWERGRID has been continuously extending support for development of various infrastructure activities in UT of Ladakh through its CSR initiatives. So far, CSR Projects worth 3 crores have already been executed by POWERGRID in UT Ladakh.

POWERGRID, Northern Region -Il with headquarters in Jammu is having its Transmission System spread over in the States of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, parts of Haryana and UT of Chandigarh, Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.
