President AKSAD Participates in Virtual Meeting with the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Discuss Key Concerns.

On the invitation of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, a virtual meeting.

was held on 17 May 2025 with student unions of Ladakh to discuss recent developments at the University. Representing Ladakhi students studying in the national capital, the President of the All Kargil (Ladakh) Students’ Association Delhi (AKSAD) participated in the meeting.

The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor informed the participants about the new courses initiated by the University to provide quality educational opportunities at their doorstep. He also shared his vision for the development of higher education in Ladakh and highlighted the recently introduced courses that cater to the unique geographical and strategic needs of the region. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor also sought suggestions from the participants to strengthen higher education in the region. In this context, the President of AKSAD raised the following key concerns:

The disintegration of Government Degree College Sankoo from the University of Ladakh (Kargil Campus) and a request for it to be granted full-fledged status.

The discontinuation of the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) programs.

A suggestion to introduce Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degrees in Defense and Strategic Studies, considering the strategic importance of the region.

A proposal to establish a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Nursing program, to allow aspiring students to pursue their degrees within the region.

The demand for recruitment and reservation for local residents of Ladakh at the University of Ladakh (UoL) has been actively raised by various student unions, with the AKSAD president voicing strong support for the cause.

The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor attentively listened to the concerns and assured the participants that corrective measures would be taken.
