Kargil, January 20, 2026: A two-day Cyber Resilience & Artificial Intelligence Workshop, organized by the Information Technology Department, UT Administration of Ladakh in partnership with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) of the Union Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), successfully concluded today at the Conference Hall in Baroo, Kargil.
On the second day, officials from various Government Departments participated in workshop focusing on enhancing cyber awareness, digital safety and the effective use of new technologies in governance.
Key attendees included Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho; Under Secretary IT Department, Dr. Sanjat Bhardwaj; Assistant Director, Tourism, Kargil, Mohammad Ali Tak; CDPO-Kargil, Parveen Akhtar and participants from various Departments.
During the session, ADC Imteeaz Kacho welcomed the attendees and emphasized the increasing importance of artificial intelligence in administrative dealings and operations. While throwing light on potential AI-related frauds and misuse such as impersonation and data manipulation, he stressed on the need for vigilance and responsible AI usage to protect official systems. Further, hehighlighted how AI can enhance governance in Kargil by improving service delivery, planning, and decision-making and emphasised AI’s potential in addressing the region’s unique geographical and administrative challenges.
Kacho thanked the IT Department, and NeGD for having chosen Kargil as the venue of the workshop and hoped that the day-long proceedings and deliberations will turn out to be quite fruitful for the participants. He expressed the desire to host similar workshops in Kargil in the coming summers.
During the technical session, Mr. Samrat Kishore delivered a comprehensive presentation on Artificial Intelligence(AI), wherein he discussed the core components of AI including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, AI risk management and emerging AI applications in governance. He also explained the concept of AI prompts including how effective prompts are designed and are used to obtain accurate and meaningful outputs from AI systems while emphasising ethical and responsible use of AI.
This was followed by a detailed session by Dr. Anil Sain who briefed the participants on cyber laws, with specific reference to important sections of the Information Technology Act, including Section 65, Section 66F, Section 66E, Section 67, Section 67A and Section 67B. He elaborated on various cyber offences, legal implications and the responsibilities of Government officials in handling cyber-related incidents and digital evidence.
The workshop also recognized the contributions of several individuals including Akshita Krishna from MeitY, Dorjie Gyaltsen, IT Department; Ishtiaq Hussain, IT Department; Gaurav Attrey, NeGDand Mr. Samrat Kishor, NeGD for their support and association with the workshop. Participants engaged in interactive discussions, sharing experiences and raising questions about cyber challenges which were addressed by the resource persons.
The workshop concluded with a closing session during which participants expressed appreciation for the initiative and highlighted the importance of such training programs in enhancing cyber resilience and digital preparedness within Government Departments. On the other hand, the IT Department affirmed its commitment to organizing similar training sessions in the future to further improve cyber awareness and technological skills across Ladakh.
The two-day workshop in Kargil, conducted as a key component of NeGD’s Capacity Building initiative, aimed to enhance understanding and adoption of AI in governance among officials of the UT Administration of Ladakh. The event witnessed the participation of over 110 officers from various Departments, including senior officials from the Police and Administrative Departments of Kargil, reflecting the region’s collective commitment to digital transformation and AI-led innovation in public administration.
