12,300 tablets to be distributed to all the students of Ladakh

In order to overcome the challenges faced by the students of Ladakh in terms of non-availability of Internet and lack of devices to attend virtual classes resulting in disruption of the learning process, we are coming up with an initiative of distributing preloaded educational tablets to all students enrolled in government schools, studying in standard 6th to 12th.

It is an effort cover the last mile and to reach the last student in the midst of a pandemic that has brought halt to the traditional ways of learning and to ensure that no student suffers due to structural inequalities.

The financial outlay of the scheme is 15 crores where in about 12,300 tablets have already been purchased. Forty learning apps have been preloaded in the tablets including educational apps like Byjus, E-pathshala, Khan Academy, idream learning app etc. Meeting apps like Webex and Google meet have also been installed in the device but since the prime purpose of the tab is to serve the students in non-internet areas, the focus has been on offline study material. NCERT books have been downloaded in PDF format and preloaded classes lectures have been included class and subject wise for the convenience of the students

Each device has been additionally provided with a 64 GB micro SD Card to facilitate maximum study material incorporation. In order to restrict the students access to unwanted sites Mobile Device Manager has been incorporated in all the tablets to allow a complete safe access to all the other important sites.

MP Ladakh in a press note said that this will ease the virtual learning especially in the far flung areas and economically deprived students of Ladakh.
