KARGIL, MAY 21, 2022: The 2-day training program for homestay owners of Kargil district concluded today at Auditorium Hall organized by the Tourism Department in collaboration with OYO.
Assistant Director Tourism Syed Toha Agha, Director Learning and Development OYO Swati Sharma, senior trainer Neetu Sharma, Assistant Tourist Officer Ghulam Rasool Lal besides other concerned officials were present on the concluding day of the program.
On the second day of the program, the homestay owners were given training on hospitality, use of chemicals for cleaning procedure in homestays, basic requirements of homestays, feedback importance, how OYO can help them to grow their homestay business etc.
The program focused on the prerequisites to be a homestay owner, what does a guest expect from a homestay, home to run a profitable homestay, how can Ladakh homestay owners are made best in the world, a home living environment, maintaining hygiene and other aspects.
On the occasion, Direct Learning and Development OYO Swati Sharma said Kargil has a huge potential to attract tourists across the globe and there is a need to make the experiences of tourists more enriching. She said the two-day program was aimed to give skilled training to homestay owners and hoped that it will benefit them to their business.
AD Tourism Kargil Aga Syed Toha said Kargil is an important tourist attraction and there is need of collective efforts from all stakeholders to further push the tourism industry and requested private players and other stakeholders to work in coordination.
He said that around 275 homestay owners of Kargil district were identified to provide necessary training and trainees were given homestay kit after the 2-day training. The kit included furniture, bed, mating and other necessary items for one room.
At the program, a certificate distribution ceremony was also held during which homestay owners were given certificates and were appreciated for their participation in making the event successful.
At the certificate distribution ceremony, AD Tourism appealed to homestay owners to apply their training skills in the field and take care of sanitation, and hygiene at homestays which is an important part of attracting tourists for the promotion of the tourism sector.
He said homestays should be run with dedication and commitment and owners should invest in homestays and work hard for the same.
AD Tourism thanked Tourism Department UT Ladakh, LAHDC Kargil and District Administration Kargil, DIPR Kargil and other departments for making the training program successful.
He also thanked Director Learning and Development OYO Swati Sharma, senior trainer Neetu Sharma for their efforts in making the training program successful.
On the occasion, Swati Sharma said the homestay owners of Kargil have huge potential & they are an intelligent bunch.
“They were highly receptive during the training & I want to see them as the best in the world,” she said.
Neetu Sharma said the program was aimed to give homestay an overall training and guide so that they run the homestay in a positive way. She said the training is her success. She thanked the homestay owners for their participation in the program.
The Tourism Department has introduced Home Stay Policy for Ladakh and is introducing it in each and every village. It will boost economy of the region and rural people. The concept of the scheme is to give tourists a homestay atmosphere in a local style. Tourists will be provided with local ethnic food and can get local taste with culture and lifestyle.
