5-day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights begins at Kargil Campus, UoL 

 

Kargil, Oct 16, 2023: Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, in collaboration with the Goa Centre for Excellence in Intellectual Property Rights (G-CEIP), organized a five-day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights: A Macroscopic Understanding of Patenting and Beyond.

 

The workshop is aimed to provide faculty members from the University of Ladakh and its constituent colleges with valuable insights into the realm of intellectual property rights.

 

The workshop was inaugurated on October 16, 2023, with Prof. S.K. Mehta serving as the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony.

 

In his speech, Prof. Mehta emphasized the significance of Intellectual Property Rights in the context of research and innovation. He also appealed to G-CEIP to assist in training the faculties from Ladakh University, enabling them to incorporate this vital subject into the university’s curriculum as a multidisciplinary course. Prof. Mehta expressed gratitude to the experts for dedicating their time to the faculties of the UoL.

 

Kaneez Fatima, Rector, Kargil Campus, UoL extended a warm welcome to the guests and stressed the timeliness and necessity of this program. She expressed gratitude to the Goa Centre for Excellence for their collaboration with the Kargil Campus.

 

Angchuk Dorjey, Special secretary to Vice Chancellor University of Ladakh and Dr. Jigmat Deachen, Dean Student Welfare also joined the inaugural session.

 

The workshop-cum-faculty program will cover various essential topics, including Understanding Basics of Intellectual Property for Scientists, Securing a Patent: What It Takes to Draft a Claim, Taking Invention to Market and Commerce: Role of Intellectual Property (IP), IPR: Techno-legal Journey – Scientist Perspective, Protection of IPR: Strategies, Challenges, and Solutions etc.

 

The leading speaker of the program is Prof. Umesh Banaker, President at Bankar Consulting Service, USA, a renowned practitioner and consultant in the field of IPR., along with Prof. Rajshree Gode, Coordinator at Goa Centre for Excellence in IPR, a prominent figure

 

in the IPR arena, and Dr. Chandrashekar, N.S., Manager – Business Development at Gangwal Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai.

 

Prof. Banaker stressed on the importance of IPR in the current arena and how it can be used in wealth creation. Prof. Rajshree threw light on the five-day program schedule. Dr. Chandrashekar spoke about the significance of patents in regions like Kargil and Leh.

 

In the end, Gh. Ali, the coordinator, extended his heartfelt gratitude to all the guests, dignitaries, and participants for making the workshop successful.
