Leh, October 6: Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena attended the valedictory function and passing-out parade at the Police Training School, Stongsar, marking the completion of training by newly recruited personnel and professional advancement of serving police personnel.

A total of 114 newly recruited Special Police Officers (SPOs) have been inducted into the Ladakh Police. They will be deployed in the newly created districts of Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Drass and Zanskar, strengthening police presence in remote and difficult-to-access areas.

The ceremony also marked the completion of pre-promotional courses by 99 personnel 8 Sub-Inspectors for promotion to Inspectors, 9 Assistant Sub-Inspectors for Sub-Inspectors, 77 Head Constables for Assistant Sub-Inspectors and 5 Police Followers for induction as Constables.

The LG said policing in Ladakh involves challenges arising from its vast geographical spread, high-altitude locations, difficult terrain, extreme weather and dispersed settlements. He stressed that professional advancement brings greater responsibility, leadership and accountability, along with the need for legal knowledge, investigation skills, technology, discipline and integrity.

As part of police welfare measures, the LG inaugurated 24 two-BHK family quarters, constructed at a cost of ₹11.04 crore. The quarters have been designed keeping Ladakh’s harsh climatic conditions in view and will benefit eligible personnel from the rank of Follower to Head Constable.

The LG also launched the official Emblem, Flag, Logo and badges of the Ladakh Fire & Rescue Service, along with its official website. The portal will provide access to Fire NOC services, safety guidelines, advisories, forms, rules, emergency contacts and fire station information.

The Comprehensive Fire Safety Handbook for Ladakh was also released, covering fire prevention, safety measures, evacuation, rescue operations and public awareness.

The LG said the initiatives would help make Ladakh’s security and emergency-response systems more modern, professional, responsive and people-centric.
