06-10-2026 Leh, Ladakh; The University of Ladakh organized an engaging interactive scientific session with Dr. Som Kumar Sharma, Professor and Deputy Head, Academic and Administration, Space and Atmospheric Sciences Division, Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, providing students, research scholars, and faculty members an opportunity to interact with an eminent scientist and gain insights into contemporary research in atmospheric sciences. The session was organized and coordinated by Ms. Lamo Dolma, Project Associate, UoL. Students from the Departments of Geology and Remote Sensing & GIS actively participated in the session, engaging enthusiastically in the discussions and interaction with the distinguished speaker.
Dr. Sharma delivered an insightful lecture on “Study of Atmosphere Cloud Properties and Their Role in the Climate of the Leh-Ladakh Region”, highlighting important aspects of atmospheric science, remote sensing, and contemporary research. His expertise in LIDAR and RADAR-based atmospheric observations, satellite remote sensing, and atmospheric processes provided students and researchers with valuable exposure to advanced scientific research.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session with the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, faculty members, research scholars, and students, where participants discussed research opportunities, emerging scientific areas, and career prospects.
The session also explored possibilities for academic and research collaboration between the University of Ladakh and PRL, including internships, short-term training, academic courses, student projects, and collaborative research opportunities.
Dr. Sharma was felicitated with a memento as a token of appreciation for his valuable presence and contribution. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the distinguished speaker, Vice-Chancellor, faculty members, researchers, students, and organizers.
