CEC, Leh reviews management regarding Khardongla/Changla pass

 

Leh, April 03: A meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of the Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, yesterday to review the management of Khardong-la/ Chang-la pass/top.

 

Taking note of the infrastructural issues, Chairman/ CEC LAHDC Leh Adv. Tashi Gyalson discussed several points to maintain the sanctity of the environment and the aesthetic value of these sites. He stated that the existing washrooms at both the locations have been constructed without taking the environmental issues and pollution in consideration. He also expressed his displeasure over the conditions of the toilets. He further discussed the complaints received from the public regarding the construction of toilets for tourist at the passes due to their religious belief, environmental concern and contamination of drinking water source.

 

He also suggested to explore an alternate route through Wari-la to minimise the traffic and pollution at Khardong-la. He also suggested the development of Wari-la to boost tourism on the route.

 

CEC directed that tourists should only be allowed to take photos at both the passes and discourage them from overstaying to prevent instances of high altitude sickness and environment pollution.

 

Chairman/ CEC LAHDC Leh Tashi Gyalson also gave a patient hearing to the issues of the concerned officials and assured to resolve their grievances.

 

The meeting was attended by Dy.Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk; Dy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; ADC, Leh Sonam Chosjor; SDMs and concerned officials of Tourism Department and Pollution Control Board.
