Leh, April 15: Advisor, UT Ladakh, Umang Narula (Chairman of UTHPSC) convened the first UT Level High Powered Steering Committee (UTHPSC) meeting to discuss the action plan for implementation of “Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0” (AMRUT 2.0) in UT Ladakh.
The priority zone of the AMRUT 2.0 mission is a 24 x 7 Water Supply, Sewerage/Septage Management, Rejuvenation of Water Bodies, and development of Park/Green Space Development in municipal areas.
It was briefed that an allocation of INR 124 Crore has been earmarked for UT Ladakh in AMRUT 2.0.
While discussing the water supply scheme augmentation in Leh and Kargil, the Advisor stated that due to the harsh winter conditions, the normal technological systems will not work in Ladakh. Therefore, he urged the representative from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), GoI to enhance the allocation for UT Ladakh. The representative from MoHUA, GoI, Pallavi Mukane, assured that the MoHUA will consider the request.
The Advisor suggested that while identifying projects availability of land may be checked in advance to avoid delays. The Advisor directed the concerned officials to expedite the pending DPRs.
Commissioner/Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Ladakh, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, gave a detailed briefing on the allocation of funds to the administration of UT Ladakh, water supply scheme augmentation in Leh and Kargil, sewerage network in Leh and Kargil, public park, spaces, water body rejuvenation. He apprised the Advisor that work on preparing DPR for 24×7 water supply in both districts is under preparation. Besides, DPR for Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and sewerage network in Kargil is ready. Further, the DPR is also being prepared for the extension of the sewerage network in Leh town to uncovered areas.
The Commissioner/Secretary further informed the Advisor that a local solution could be used for the sewerage network in challenging areas. He also added that waste will be converted into art through the initiative of ‘waste to art’ which was quite successful in the past.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner/Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Ladakh; Chief Conservator of Forest, Ladakh; Director, H&UDD, Ladakh; Chief Engineer, PHE Deptt, Ladakh; and representative of MoHUA, GoI.
