Week-long Cultural Revival Workshop and Language Awareness Camp begins in Karsha Monastery, Zanskar

Kargil, March 4, 2023:

Week-long Cultural Revival Workshop and Language Awareness Camp organized by LAHDC Kargil in collaboration with Ladakh Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages, Kargil commenced today at Karsha, Monastery, Zanskar, in which more than 40 participants actively participated.

Lobzang Namgyal, BDC, Karsha-Zanskar, Block Level officers of Zanskar, Monks of Karsha Monastery, artists, village representatives and public were also present on the occasion.

The week-long Cultural Revival Workshop and Language Awareness Camp will be held in around 25 villages of Kargil District starting from Feb 16 onwards.

This camp has been ideated by the Hill Council, Kargil with the aim and vision to preserve, conserve and promote the rich socio-cultural heritage of Ladakh which is equally unique and significant.

It focuses on strongly upholding the tribal identity of Ladakh embedded in its different customs, traditions, rituals, and languages in the course of the developmental path that Ladakh as a Union Territory now treads upon.

Addressing the gathering, Lobzang Namgyal, BDC, expressed hope that the event will achieve the vision and objective with which it was initiated by the Council & Ladakh Cultural Academy.

He added that the onus of preserving our language, culture, and heritage falls on ourselves and that we should strive internally to protect and conserve our rich tribal identity.

The BDC said the UT Ladakh Administration & Hill Council, Kargil are committed and is making concerted efforts in promoting and conserving the rich cultural heritage according to the uniqueness of Ladakh.

Workshop Coordinator, in his welcome speech, highlighted the importance of Ladakh’s rich traditions, customs, language and heritage, and the need for its promotion and preservation at the grass root level.

On the behalf of Karsha Constituency and Karsha Monastery, he thanked LAHDC, Kargil and Ladakh Cultural Academy, Kargil for organizing such a fruitful event for the benefit of the young generation.
