Acting CEC kick starts Pulse Polio Immunisation program in Kargil

Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Aga Syed Abass Razvi along with EC for Health, Mohsin Ali today kick-started intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Program at district hospital Kargil.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Munawar Hussain Wazir, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Muhammad Abass, Medical Superintendent, Dr Liyaqat Ali Khan, District Immunization Officer, Dr Muhammad Jalil, Block Medical Officer Kargil, Dr Fatima Nissa besides doctors, paramedical staff and officials of health department Kargil were present on the occasion.

DIO Kargil informed that a total of 332 pulse polio immunization booths have been set up in the district across all blocks to vaccinate 16,724 children from 0 to 5 years.

He said 1,528 health personnel including pharmacists, ANMs, Anganwari workers and ASHAs have been deployed to achieve the target besides 75 supervisors have also been deployed to ensure overall supervision of the program.

The Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IIPI) Program 2022 was held across the district during which thousands of children were administered polio vaccination drops. Officials said of the total population of 142,176 in Kargil, 16,227 are targeted children in the age group of 0-5.

Similarly, the pulse polio immunization was also started at Zanskar. SDM Zanskar, Sonam Dorjay inaugurated the program at Community Health Centre Padum in presence of Block Medical Officer Zanskar, Dr Stanzin Namgail and Medical Officer Dr Stanzin Lamo.

BMO Zanskar informed that 32 polio booths were set up in the subdivision to target 1398 children in the age group of 0-5 age.

The largest polio booth is at CHC Padum with 120 children while Shaday booth is the smallest booth with only 02 children in the subdivision. To monitor the polio vaccination, five supervisors were deployed in the subdivision.

Later, SDM Zanskar appreciated the BMO and medical team for going to remote villages such as Shun-Shady and Ralakhung despite the harsh weather condition.
