ADC Kargil attends UT level conference on mock drill exercise on earthquake disaster

 

Kargil, July 27, 2023: The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil (ADC), Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani, on Wednesday attended the UT level Orientation and Coordination Conference on mock exercise on earthquake disaster at the Conference Hall.

 

The event was organized by UT Ladakh in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

 

The conference saw the presence of several key officials and stakeholders, including Sectorial Heads, Tehsildars, BDOs, representatives from the Police Department, NGOs, civil society members, and other concerned officers.

 

During a virtual presentation, the officers were thoroughly informed and trained on various modules to effectively handle post-earthquake disaster situations. The primary aim of the conference was to foster collaboration among all stakeholders to address any potential disaster effectively.

 

Through the presentation, the officers were informed about agenda of the program, communication strategies, role of stakeholders, risk of glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF), table top exercise and scenario, preparatory activities, mobilisation of response schedule, sequence of actions, aspects to be evaluated, simulation ME, summary of simulation site wise and other aspects related to dealing with the proposed drill action to mitigate earthquake disaster.

 

ADC Wani emphasized the importance of every department making individual presentations, and the best ones would be chosen for implementation. He also directed sectorial heads to participate in the program and hold discussions with concerned officers and departments in the coming days.

 

Furthermore, ADC Wani stressed the need for every department to have an individual disaster management plan, which should be shared with the District Administration. Additionally, he emphasized that the resources uploaded on the portal should be made available physically as well.

 

To ensure sufficient support during any disaster, ADC Wani requested the Indian Army to provide available resources, while also planning to involve BSNL and NHPC for necessary logistics support.

 

The conference provided a valuable platform for collaborative efforts and proactive planning in preparation for earthquake disasters, aiming to enhance overall disaster response capabilities in the district.
