ADC Kargil reviews flood preparedness

KARGIL, JULY 02, 2022:

Additional Deputy Commissioner/ACR Kargil, Abdul Gaffar Zargar today chaired a meeting of officers to review the preparedness for disasters like floods in the district.

The ADC took a detailed review of the preparedness of the departments and discussed their roles and responsibilities in any disaster like situation as occurred in the same month last year.

As a precautionary measure to mitigate any potential loss of life and property due to floods, the ADC instructed each department to keep their resources in ready position in case of any possible eventuality.

He also stressed on the need of establishing better coordination between the departments to work effectively in delivery timely relief to the affected and perform rescue operations, if needed. ADC specifically instructed officers for better implementation of the strategies on ground.

ADC instructed the Executive Engineer Mechanical to provide men and machinery at the subdivision level, especially at Rangdum, Parkachik, Panikhar and other flood-prone areas.

Executive Engineer, I&FC Kargil was instructed to ensure availability of pipes, CJI Sheets and Poly Sheets at all levels. While, Executive Engineer, PHE Kargil will ensure availability of water supply pipes and water tanker service at all level in case of any type of disaster.

The ADC further instructed the Chief Medical Officer Kargil to ensure availability of medical equipment including ambulances, medicines and medical staff at all levels.

He instructed the Executive Engineer, PDD to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity and to restore electricity in affected areas on priority if any disaster occurs.

General Manager (P), NHIDCL, Kargil was instructed to ensure availability of men and Machinery on National Highway 301 in coordination with SDM Sankoo and Zanskar to ensure connectivity for facilitating relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Kargil, will ensure availability of communication system at all levels i.e poll net, satellite phone/wireless system etc.

Assistant Director, FCS&CA, Kargil was instructed to ensure availability of essential commodities at all depots across the district.

ACD Kargil shall ensure availably of men and machinery at panchayat level and also directed to conduct training of first aid, distribute search and rescue kits at Panchayat level in collaboration with health department and UTDRF Kargil.

All SDMs were directed to prepare a mechanism for public awareness on disaster management in coordination with the concerned Tehsildars, BMOs, PRIs members, civil society members and NGOs.

Shiv Kumar, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Munawar Hussain Wazir, Assistant Director, Food, Civil Supplies & CA, Mohd Raza, Executive Engineer, I&FC Division, Mohd Hassan, Executive Engineer, Electric Distribution Division PDD, Altaf Hussain, Executive Engineer, I&FC Issa Ali, Executive Engineer, Mechanical Division, Mohd Hassan, representative of SSP, Manzoor Hussain, Incharge, UTDRF, Iftikhar Hussain and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
