Administrative Secretary RDD/STW Visits Anganwadi Centres and Development Facilities in Zanskar

Zanskar, September 22, 2026: Administrative Secretary, Rural Development Department (RDD) and Social & Tribal Welfare (STW) Department, UT Ladakh, Ms. Nidhi Malik, IAS, today undertook a field visit to various locations in Zanskar to review ongoing activities and interact with beneficiaries, frontline workers and local stakeholders.

During the visit, the Administrative Secretary visited the Anganwadi Centres at Padum, Ubarak and Skidshirak, where she inspected the facilities and interacted with children, Anganwadi workers and teachers. She took feedback regarding the services being provided and the day-to-day functioning of the centres. The visit provided an opportunity to understand the experiences and requirements of frontline workers and beneficiaries and to review the implementation of welfare initiatives at the grassroots level.

As part of her field visit to rural development facilities, Ms. Malik also visited the Gram Panchayat (GP) Library at Padum and the Ubarak Community Hall, and reviewed the facilities and arrangements available at these public infrastructure assets. She interacted with officials and local stakeholders regarding their use and functioning.

She further visited the fencing work at Sani Lake and reviewed the ongoing development-related arrangements at the site. The visit also included an inspection of the Waste Segregation Plant in Zanskar, established by the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department. She reviewed the arrangements at the facility and interacted with the officials and personnel involved in its operations.

Ms. Malik also visited Karsha Photang, taking note of its cultural and local significance. The visit provided an opportunity to appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Zanskar while also observing the potential of such sites to contribute to the region’s tourism appeal and local development.

The field visit formed part of the Administrative Secretary’s ongoing engagement with the ground-level implementation of developmental and welfare initiatives in Zanskar, with emphasis on understanding local needs and strengthening the delivery of services to the people.
