Kargil, December 4, 2025: A tech-driven health initiative in the remote villages of Chumikchan and Khalamarpo in Sankoo Block has detected five suspected Tuberculosis (TB) cases during a special screening camp held on Wednesday. A total of 29 residents were examined using an AI-powered portable chest X-ray unit.

The camp was jointly organised by the District TB Centre (DTC) and the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) teams, who travelled to these hard-to-reach locations with advanced diagnostic tools. The high-tech X-ray system uses artificial intelligence to quickly flag abnormalities in the lungs, enabling faster identification of potential TB patients.
Health officials confirmed that samples from all five suspected cases have been sent for CBNAAT testing, a rapid molecular test that will determine the presence of TB bacteria and drug resistance.

The initiative reflects the governmentβs intensified efforts to accelerate early detection and improve healthcare access in remote regions. By integrating artificial intelligence into field-level screening, authorities aim to strengthen Indiaβs mission of achieving a βTB-Mukt Bharatβ, especially in difficult terrains like Ladakh where medical access is limited.
Officials emphasised that technology-driven outreach programmes are proving crucial in bridging healthcare gaps and ensuring timely treatment for vulnerable communities.
