Kargil, December 15, 2025:

In a concerted effort to ensure smooth traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and orderly use of public spaces, the district administration of Kargil conducted an anti-encroachment drive today across key areas of Kargil town.

The drive was carried out in compliance with the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, along the busy stretch from Iqbal Bridge to the Old Taxi Stand. The operation was jointly executed by the Tehsildar Kargil, Station House Officer, Police Station Kargil, Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil, and the Traffic Police Kargil.

During the drive, unauthorized encroachments on public roads and footpaths were removed to restore free movement for vehicles and pedestrians. As per the rules in force, a total fine of ₹4,500 was imposed on the violators found occupying public spaces illegally.

The district administration appealed to shopkeepers, vendors, and the general public to refrain from encroaching upon roads, footpaths, and other public areas. Citizens were urged to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining cleanliness, public safety, and unhindered movement throughout the town.

Officials further emphasized that such enforcement drives will continue regularly in the interest of public convenience, traffic discipline, and maintenance of law and order in Kargil.
