Anti-Encroachment Drive Continues in Kargil Town

Kargil, December 18, 2025:

In continuation of the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign and in compliance with the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, an enforcement drive was conducted today across several areas of Kargil town.

The drive covered key locations including BSNL Crossing to Bus Stand Crossing, Silmoo Colony, Dak Banglow First, Old Tehsildar Quarter, and Lower Chanchik Road. The operation aimed at removing unauthorized encroachments from public roads and footpaths to ensure smooth traffic movement and enhance pedestrian safety.

The enforcement action was jointly carried out by the Naib Tehsildar Kargil, Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station Kargil, Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil, and the Traffic Police Kargil.

During the drive, individuals found encroaching upon public spaces were penalized as per applicable rules. A total fine of ₹3,500 was imposed on violators for unauthorized occupation of roads and footpaths.

The district administration reiterated its appeal to shopkeepers and the general public to refrain from encroaching on public spaces and to extend full cooperation to the authorities. It was emphasized that such enforcement drives will continue in the interest of public convenience, road safety, and the maintenance of law and order in Kargil town.
