LRLM Kargil Organises Awareness Programme under National Campaign on Gender Equality

Kargil, December 18, 2025:

The Ladakh Rural Livelihood Mission (LRLM) organised an awareness programme under the National Campaign on Gender Equality at Syed Mehdi Memorial Hall, Kargil, with the aim of promoting gender justice, women’s dignity, and social equality.

The programme was graced by Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujtaba as the Chief Guest, Additional District Commissioner Kargil Imteaz Kacho as the Guest of Honour, and Superintendent of Police Kacho Ishtiyaq. Several senior officials and dignitaries were also present on the occasion, including Chief Medical Officer Kacho Liyakat Ali, District Panchayat Officer Raziya Khatoon, Councillor Khadim Hussain, General Manager DIC Shafiq Ahmad, officers from various departments, and members of Lakhpati Didi Self-Help Groups.

Addressing the gathering, Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujtaba emphasized that discrimination between boys and girls is strictly prohibited in Islam and that the Holy Quran advocates equal opportunities for all. He stated that women are not servants but a vital source of peace and balance in society. Stressing the importance of respect and protection of women’s rights, he called upon society to ensure dignity and equality for women at every level.

Guest of Honour Imteaz Kacho appreciated the efforts of LRLM and highlighted the growing role of women in society, particularly acknowledging the remarkable progress made by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Kargil. Congratulating women achievers, he said the programme offered valuable insights into women’s roles and responsibilities. While expressing concern over increasing crimes against women, he stressed the importance of fairness, balance, and responsible use of legal provisions. He also underlined the need for self-defence training for women to ensure their safety and dignity, noting that women shoulder responsibilities both at home and in the workplace.

Earlier, Muneer Ahmad from NRLM briefed the participants about the objectives of the programme. He stated that the campaign aims to create awareness—especially among women—about self-reliance, dignity, gender equality, and the prevention of domestic violence, thereby fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to all dignitaries, participants, and organisers for their active participation and support in strengthening the message of gender equality in the region.
