Campaign against Gender-Based Violence held at Sub-Division Khaltse

Leh, Dec 05: As per the schedule prepared by District Administration, Leh, for the observation of the month-long National Gender Campaign, an awareness campaign regarding the ‘Elimination of Gender-based Violence’, was held at sub-division Khaltse under the supervision of SDM Khaltse, Suhail Ahmed and Nodal Officer/BDO, Khaltse, Varinder Bawa.

Women Alliance President, Khaltse, Stanzin Dolma was present as the chief guest.

During the programme, officers from all the line departments, such as Block Medical Officer, Khaltse, Dr Chamba Laskit; Tehsil Legal Services Khaltsi, Nangsal Angmo; Child Development Project Officer Khaltse, Shakila Bano and Agriculture Department Khaltse official, Phuntsog Yangphel briefed about the prevalence of gender-based violence and the legal remedies and mechanisms available to the victims.

They also raised awareness about the various welfare schemes available for women and girl children along with the importance of health, hygiene and nutritional values for pregnant and lactating mothers and children.

Sarpanch Timisgam, Sonam Angchuk also spoke on the topic.

Zonal Education Officer, Khlatse; Naib Tehsildar, Timisgam; representatives of PRIs; Self Help Groups; ASHA and Anganwadi workers, besides the public were part of the awareness campaign.
