CEC Feroz Khan attends plantation drive at Kurbathang

Kargil, March 23, 2023:

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan and Executive Councilor, Horticulture, LAHDC Kargil, Aga Mehdi Fazily today attended a plantation drive at Kurbathang Kargil.

The CEC lauded the role of Horticulture Kargil for its public-friendly plantation of orchards and also expressed his views about the importance of fruit plants and maintaining orchards with an aim to better eco-system and to enhance the livelihood.

The CEC also flagged off apricot and apple nursery plants for distribution in Batalik sector. They inspected fruits nursery of apricot, peach, apples and rootstock of Mazard varieties.

EC Fazily urged the farmers to take the privilege of government-subsidized schemes and also threw light on progressive farming and motivated people towards cash crop. He thanked the department for organizing such training and awareness camp and for distribution of fruit nursery plants.

Earlier, Chief Horticulture Officer, Kargil Ali Raza informed the CEC and EC about the distribution of nursery plants and schemes. He informed that 16,858 nursery plants would be distributed under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme of the department to identified progressive farmers of different blocks.

He said that 3,948 plants in apricot nursery are ready for distribution in the district under the SDP. Later, a training-cum-demonstration camp on fruit tree canopy management was also organized in collaboration with APEDA Ladakh for the farmers.

Senior Scientist, SKUAST, Dr Faizan, Principal Scientist, KVK, Kargil Dr Mehdi Akhone, Accounts Officer to Director Horticulture Department, Mohd Zaffar, field staff besides farmers were present during the occasion. Dr Mehdi gave a detailed demonstration on canopy management and its benefits.
