CEC Kargil chairs meeting with MEIL to discuss various issues pertaining to Zoji-la Tunnel Eastern Portal
Kargil, July 13, 2024: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today chaired meeting with head in charge of Mega Engineering Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) to discuss various issues pertaining to Zoji-la Tunnel, Eastern Portal. 
Executive Councilor, Kacho Mohd Feroz; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse; Councilor Ranbirpora, Abdul Samad; Councilor Bhimbhet, Abdul Wahid; General Manager, NHIDCL; Head Incharge MEIL, Syed Burhan besides other concerned officials were present. 
The discussion focused on issues, with an emphasis on providing employment opportunities to local youth. Dr Akhoon directed DC Kargil to constitute a verification committee of members including SDM Drass.
Members of NHIDCL, AEEs from the Engineering Department were asked to furnish a detailed report on the ratio of local and non-local employees employed in Zoji-la Tunnel work, including unskilled, skilled and highly skilled labourers.
The CEC Kargil said that with the submission of the final report, action will be taken accordingly. Highlighting the importance of local engagement, Dr Akhoon urged the project management to work in close coordination with the local community.
He emphasized that the Zoji-la Tunnel is a dream project for the Ladakh region and requires a broad and inclusive perspective to ensure its success.
