CEC Kargil Dr Jaffer takes stock of Kargil Airport expansion

 

Kargil, Dec 21: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today conducted a thorough visit to Kargil Airport, focusing on the expansion prospects of the airport runway.

 

Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, SE, PWD, Naib Tehsildar, Kargil, Exen R&B, concerned officials of Air Force Station of Kargil accompanied the CEC.

 

At the outset, the CEC examined the necessary arrangements for the operationalization of the AN-32 Courier Service, emphasizing its significance for logistical efficiency.

 

CEC Dr Jaffer said that recognizing the scope for operation of small aircraft, he has requested the Honourable Lieutenant Governor Ladakh for the expansion of the airport.

 

He assured that he will actively pursue the matter with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) and Airports Authority of India (AAI), drawing parallels with successful operations in places like Shimla and North Eastern regions of the country.

 

The CEC Dr Jaffer affirmed his commitment to initiate the airport expansion project in 2024.

 

Later, the CEC also visited the civil helipad and took assessment of the arrangements available for operation of helicopter services in the district which is in process with the Administration of UT Ladakh for finalization.

 

He expressed optimism about the swift commencement of operations, aiming to provide a convenient travel experience to the people of Kargil, especially during winter.
