Centre Boosts Telecom Connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh with Major 4G Expansion

New Delhi | December 2025

In a major push to strengthen digital infrastructure in the Himalayan region, the Union Ministry of Communications has announced significant improvements in telecom connectivity across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, with large-scale deployment of 4G mobile network sites under Central government support.

Massive 4G Rollout Across Jammu & Kashmir

According to official details, 1,697 4G sites have been allocated in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 1,624 sites have already been commissioned and are operational. This expansion has substantially improved mobile and internet connectivity in both urban and rural areas, bridging long-standing digital gaps.

Ladakh Sees Major Connectivity Upgrade

In the Union Territory of Ladakh, 383 telecom sites have been sanctioned, with 304 sites successfully commissioned so far. The rollout has brought reliable mobile connectivity to several remote, high-altitude, and border areas, where access to communication services was previously limited.

Part of Comprehensive Revival Packages

The telecom expansion forms part of a series of revival and support packages approved by the Centre, including:

₹69,000 crore revival package (2019) ₹1.64 lakh crore revival package (2022) ₹89,000 crore spectrum support package (2023) ₹6,982 crore CAPEX allocation (2025)

These investments aim to modernize telecom infrastructure, strengthen public sector telecom services, and ensure digital inclusion across difficult terrains.

BSNL Plays a Key Role

The upgraded infrastructure is expected to significantly enhance connectivity in border areas, rural belts, and remote mountainous regions, with BSNL emerging as a crucial telecom service provider in ensuring last-mile connectivity and network reliability.

Officials stated that the improved telecom network will support education, healthcare, governance, tourism, and emergency services, while also boosting economic activity and digital empowerment in the region.
