DC kargil finalizes arrangements for international yoga day

Kargil, June 19, 2023: Ahead of the 9th International Yoga Day to be observed on June 21, 2023, Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve today chaired a meeting to finalize arrangements for the upcoming event.

The meeting was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police, Kargil Iftikhar Ahmed Chaudhary, Deputy Secretary, Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (LAACL), Kargil, Nazir Hussain, CMO Kargil, CEO Kargil, Executive Engineer R&B, MC Officer Kargil, representatives from the RD&PRD, Youth Services and Sports Department, Kargil and NYK Kargil and other concerned officers and officials.

The meeting decided to hold the main event at Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, Bemathang, Kargil and finalized arrangements like cleanliness at the venue, security arrangement, ambulance arrangements, traffic arrangement etc.

The meeting was informed that the Indian Army and the District Administration Kargil will jointly celebrate the Yoga Day.

During the meeting, it was decided that the Deputy Secretary, LAACL, Kargil, Nazir Hussain will be the incharge head for the whole event.

The Education Department was asked to mobilize maximum participation of students from government and private educational institutions.

The designing of posters and installation of public address system, besides publicity of the event, were entrusted to Cultural Academy Kargil and Information Department, respectively.

The Youth Services and Sports Department was instructed to keep the yoga mats and the instructors on ready mode.

The concerned departments were asked to make all necessary arrangements well in advance for the smooth and successful conduct of the International Day of Yoga in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed for generating mass awareness about benefits of yoga and mass participation of the people. He directed the district officers to participate in the event along with the staff members at 6:00 a.m.

He also reiterated the importance of yoga in promoting overall health and well-being and urged everyone to adopt it as a way of life.

DC Kargil hoped that the International Yoga Day celebration in Kargil would be a great success and encouraged everyone to participate in the event to make it a memorable one.

The meeting was also informed that the yoga function will be followed by the cultural programs in which the local artists will perform.

International Yoga Day has been celebrated across the world annually on June 21 since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in ancient India. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his UN address in 2014, had suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.
