DC Kargil Reviews Utilization of Government Infrastructure

Kargil, February 27, 2026: Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil chaired a meeting to review the status of utilization of infrastructure assets (government buildings) by various departments to ensure their optimal and efficient use across the district.

The meeting was attended by SDM Zanskar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, SDM Drass, SDM Sankoo, Superintending Engineer PWD, Assistant Director Handicrafts, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Kargil, District Social Welfare Officer Kargil, besides other district officers.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner conducted a detailed review of government buildings constructed by different executing agencies and assessed their present occupancy status. Emphasizing the need for effective asset management, he directed the officers to initiate the process of shifting various government offices currently functioning from private rented accommodations to available government buildings.

The DC further instructed all Sub Divisional Magistrates and concerned departments to identify suitable and holistic government buildings within their respective jurisdictions that can accommodate offices presently operating in private structures. He stressed that optimal utilization of public assets would not only reduce unnecessary expenditure on rent but also enhance administrative efficiency.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed executing agencies to furnish complete details of infrastructure assets created under different schemes and to hand over such assets to the concerned departments, especially those functioning from private buildings, so that they can be put to immediate use.

He called for close coordination among departments to streamline the process and ensure that government infrastructure is utilized in a planned and effective manner for better public service delivery in Kargil district.

The DC also informed the officers about a new initiative of the district administration titled “Khidmat-e-Awaam”, which will be organized at the Sub-Division level on the pattern of Jan Hit Camps. The programme aims to bring all government schemes and services under one platform to facilitate beneficiaries and promote self-employment opportunities.

He directed all departments to make necessary preparations to ensure on-the-spot delivery of services and benefits during the programme. The DC further stated that a “Shaam-e-Awaam” session will also be organized to directly address public grievances and concerns.

Additionally, he instructed that SDMs shall conduct regular visits to healthcare facilities, schools, and ongoing development works within their respective subdivisions to monitor functioning and take necessary action in case of any discrepancies.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed coordinated efforts among departments to ensure effective implementation of the initiative and improved public service delivery across Kargil district.
