DC Kargil visits various villages of Shakar-Chiktan Block

Reviews implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission

Kargil, April 01, 2023:

Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve today visited various villages of Shakar- Chiktan Block in Kargil and reviewed Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) works.

During the visit SDM Shakar Chiktan, Muhammad Sharif, Superintending Engineer PHE, I&FC Kargil Maqbool Hussain, Exen PHE Kargil, Muhammad Hassan, BDC Shakar Chiktan, BDOs, Sarpanchs, Panchs and other concerned officials/officers accompanied the DC Kargil.

The DC Kargil along with team of JJM first visited Heniskot village where he inspected the work progress of JJM and checked the supply of drinking water in Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) provided to every household of the village.

DC Santosh asked about the source of water supply in the village and reviewed the construction work of 5,000-gallon water reservoir.

Residents of the village requested for solar pump installation to overcome lack of water supply for some households to which the DC assured to fulfill the same at the earliest.

The DC also inspected availability of running water in tap connection and directed to restore the water supply blocked by freezing of pipes in winter season. He also reviewed the construction of sockage pit for greywater management.

The locals of the village informed the DC that some tap connections aren’t functional due to freezing of water in winter. The DC directed the officials to spot the freezing points and project suitable insulation that will protect the pipes from freezing.

People of Heniskot requested for the reinstallation of submersible pump as the old one is in flood zone and could be damaged any time. The DC Kargil directed for the first trial and then change it to safe zone.

DC Santosh also visited Bodhkharboo village and inspected the work progress of JJM at various locations. The locals of the village expressed gratitude to the efforts of concerned departments that made the scheme successful. The locals also sought attention regarding freezing of pipes and also requested to install suitable insulation.

During the visit to Bodhkharboo village, the DC along with other officers visited the site of spring source and reviewed the construction of water tank and also checked the purity of water.

Enroute to Shakar Chiktan, DC Santosh reviewed functionality of water reservoirs, old submersible pipes, water tanks, water tap connections in greenhouse and resolved other issues in Bodhkharboo village and assured the villagers for every possible help.

The concerned officials informed the DC Kargil that out of 97 households of Bodhkharboo, 66 of have been connected with FHTC till date and remaining will be connected soon.

The DC also inspected the construction of Kharboothang Irrigation Cannal and Khangral Irrigation Cannal and instructed for immediate repair where it has been damaged by flood.

At Shakar Chiktan, DC Santosh took stock of various developmental activities and instructed the concerned officers to speed up the progress and complete it within stipulated timelines.

On the occasion, Exen PHE assured the DC Kargil that 100 percent work would be completed in Shakar Chiktan within 20 days. The DC instructed the Exen to use more labourers for early completion of JJM works.

The Deputy Commissioner interacted with the locals of Shakar Chiktan and took feedback regarding drinking water facilities. The locals requested the DC for installation of more borewells as the water in old borewells is not suitable for drinking.

Responding to the requests, the DC Kargil directed the officials of PHE Department to test the water of borewells at the earliest and if possible make it suitable for drinking purpose.

DC Santosh said these submersible pipes should be at suitable depth so that the pipes would not freeze in future. The DC directed the concerned officers to complete the remaining work adding that developmental works should be taken up after proper planning to prevent any loss by flood or by other means.

Later, a delegation comprising Lambardar Hagnis and Sarpanch Chiktan presented a memorandum of demands that were considered by the Depty Commissioner.

The DC also reviewed the construction work of various Govt. buildings of Revenue Department that include SDM Office, Tehsil Office, Conference Hall, Staff Quarters etc. and directed to complete the remaining works within time bounds.
